Testimonials:
Dear Village Agency / Jeanne,
We
arrived safely in the Netherlands and all enjoyed our 5-week
holiday in South-Africa. South-Africa has lots to offer.
We found our stay in Hout Bay very comfortable. A perfect
basis to explore Capetown and the peninsula, with restaurants
and shops on walking distance. Your service was perfect
with even a phonecall to warn us of temporary problems with
the water distribution in Hout Bay. We also enjoyed the
gym facilities and the swimming pool. Thanks for your assistance
and all the best with your agency.
Best
Regards, Han Fennema
We
enjoyed our stay very much. The flat is spacious, comfortable
and well equipped. The balcony has great views of Chapman's
Peak and Hout Bay. The Village Agency was extremely helpful
and responsive. Many
thanks
Regards
Richard Dickman |
History
of FIFA:
FIFA started life in Paris on 21 May 1904. In the past 100 years,
there have been eight Presidents and membership risen from seven
to 208. FIFA has played a pivotal role in world football's development,
having established the sport's greatest competition - the FIFA
World Cup™ - Also taking responsibility for its rules and regulations.
This
sporting event captures the world's imagination . Ever since the
first competition in Uruguay in 1930, FIFA's flagship has constantly
grown in popularity.
The
Second World War put a 12-year stop to the competition.
When
it resumed, the FIFA World Cup rapidly became the greatest single
sporting event of the modern world. Held since 1958 alternately
in Europe and the Americas, the World Cup broke new ground with
the decision in 1996 to select Korea and Japan as co-hosts for
the 2002 edition.
Since
1930, the 16 tournaments have only had seven different winners.
The FIFA World Cup has also had dramatic upsets that have created
footballing history - the United States defeated England in 1950,
North Korea defeated Italy in 1966.
Today,
the FIFA World Cup has an accumulated audience of over 37 billion
people. This audience watched the France 1998 tournament, with
about 1.3 billion for the final alone, while more than 2.7 million
people went to watch the 64 matches in France.
With
many changes the main focus of the FIFA World Cup is still the
glistening golden trophy, which is every footballer's dream.
Modern
football was born in 1863 when the English Football Association
was founded. And there is evidence of people kicking a rudimentary
ball around more than 2,000 years ago in China. It was in England
where the village contests of medieval times became today’s popular
ball game. By 1863, the first basic rules were established.
Why
SA?
In May 2004, FIFA awarded the hosting of the FIFA World Cup to
an African country for the first time in the 101 years of FIFA’s
existence. That country was South Africa and this proud nation
is striving to produce one of the best World Cup tournaments in
history.
As the host of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, South Africa stands as
a representative of Africa and as part of an African family of
nations.
Angola,
Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland,
Zambia and Zimbabwe are collectively using the World Cup to develop
the seven transfrontier conservation areas (TFCAs) in the region.
In choosing South Africa to bring the World Cup to Africa for
the first time, Fifa was looking at what the country already offers
– top notch transport, telecommunications, tourism and sporting
infrastructure, and a nation of sunshine people renowned for their
hospitality and passion for the beautiful game. In 2010, football
fans will enjoy the benefits of a host of multibillion-rand infrastructure
projects South Africa will spend in the region of R5-billion on
building and renovating football stadiums, R5.2-billion on airports,
and R3.5-billion on the country's road and rail network.
More
on Cape Town:
South Africa's best know city is Cape Town, home to almost 3 million
people. Every year more people visit Cape Town than any other
South African city. Visitors to Cape Town can expect breathtaking
scenery and a city focussed and geared towards travel and tourism.
Table
Mountain provides a dramatic back drop to the city.Cape Town is
synonym with Table Mountain, this flat topped mountain streches
almost two miles wide and over 1000 metres high at it's highest
point. Table Mountain is one of the top tourist destination, this
area offers various climbing and hiking routes. The Table Mountain
Cableway rotates through 360 degrees as it makes its way to the
summit, from the top, views of the Cape Peninsula are spectacular.
